Fuel handling machines
The load capacities are in the range of 2 - 5 tons.
The electrical-control system with redundant memory programmable logic control system (PLC) is arranged on the fuel element handling machine trolley. Operation takes place by means of various control consoles with diverse visualisations manually, semi-automatically or fully automatically in each case with the necessary safety-monitored control steps.
Fuel handling machines are used to load and unload the reactor core as well as transport the fuel elements in the reactor pool. In principle, we make a distinction between two types of fuel charging machines for the respective reactor types boiling water and pressurized water reactors.
The fuel elements are always handled by a purpose-built stainless steel grab that is built into a stainless steel telescopic mast. Via the redundant charging machine safety hoist (e.g. in accordance with KTA 3902.4.4, highest safety category, with load drop prevention = fully single failure proofed) the functions of the grab and telescopic mast are redundantly activated with safety monitoring. In this connection, NKM Noell Special Cranes has developed and applied purpose-built monitoring systems.
